Sketchup for the Design Conceptualization of a House

2.    Understand the Design Conceptualization process in Architecture especially in designing a house

3.    The Presentation of a Design in architectural practice where the Design and the 3d rendering are achieved through the production of 3d model of a house you will be designing.

This is the best practical way to teach you by giving you an example to follow at the same time give you enough time to explore and experience how to do it on your own.

 The connection between design and presentation is the 3d model that you will be producing in the entire duration of this course until you become familiar with the use of sketchup and let you explore your artistic abilities in designing a house.

Sketchup and Design Conceptualization. 

Design Conceptualization of a Two-storey Three Bedroom Residence is a design practice of an Architect and is taught in Architectural Schools. This is the initial stage of learning how to design. This lesson will show the procedure on how Design Concepts are done and how plans are developed. However, pursuing architecture is highly recommended if you consider yourself to be involved in a more complicated design and planning of buildings. Nevertheless, the process is the same.

We will be dealing with a simple Two-Storey Residence, a hand-sketch will be provided for your practice. The basic lesson is learning sketchup. This is the method of learning how to use the tool at the same time accomplishing something that is more architecturally accepted design presentation.

Sketchup is very important tool that is used by many designers. It is very handy, direct to the point 3d modelling tool with different variety of styles. As an artist, everyone can be unique in their presentation too!

The practice of architecture is always involved in the presentation of Design proposals. This is the initial stage where one can proceed with the rest of the stages leading to the production of design development up to the final construction of the project.

This is the Design Conceptualization stage where the architect draws his idea to a Design Concept. Visualization plays a very important role in conveying your design. This is where sketchup comes in. As you develop your idea, Sketchup is your user friendly tool in the creation process up to the final outcome of the design into a more realistic presentation.

This is the introduction to Sketchup. The User Interface and the tools. Will show you the Tools and their corresponding function.

A brief introduction to the use of sketchup starting from line tool to editing tools.  

Design Concept is a process in architectural design. From Idea to concept development, one has to provide visual aid in order to explain the intent of the design.

Sketching is but part of the literal translation of the idea into plans and perspective.

Plans are arranged in such a way that it will further explain the distribution of space according to function and accessibility. This is just one of the primary purpose of developing the plan as part of the architect's practices. Once the plan is established, this will be translated into perspective view to show the exterior design of the structure you are designing.

After all these process are completed, it is organized into a more impressive presentation to show the whole concept development to the client.

This is the main course where you will be spending much of the time. Practice makes perfect. The best way to help you learn is to let you do it yourself. With the video provided, the step-by-step procedure can be a guide. As you go along and practice 3d modelling, you can develop any method and modify the process.

The basic methods are commands that are repetitious. The goal is to complete the whole architectural design from plan layout to 3d models. In this example, you will be completing a simple house. If you have available plan, you can use that to create the 3d model, otherwise plan will be provided.

When you open sketchup, there will be a dialogue box to set up your template and the unit set-up. 

This is the basic learning in the Drawing creation tool. The Line tool that will be the most useful tool in the whole creation of the Design from 2D to 3D.

This is the basic editing tools that you are going to use in the whole duration of the drawing exercise in your 2d and 3d creation. These are useful tips to work smart and use it efficiently.

This is the first method in creating a 2D Layout from the sketch as product of the Design Conceptualization process. Having the hand-sketch plan, we will be connecting the link between the manual sketching to Digital sketching using Sketchup.

As you learn the method, you will be given the resources to follow along and complete the plan layout in your own timing. Practice along while learning. 

This method will walk you through the process and follow along. Don't be afraid to explore while getting more familiar with the tools. The possibilities are endless.

This is an option to create the 2d Plan Layout using cad file to be imported to sketchup. A process to make the uniform and consistent presentation with sketchup.

This is also an additional resource and show the student another house design. A Single storey house design is included as shown in the introduction of this course.  

3D modeling is the backbone of your presentation. The completeness of detail creates a big impact in your architectural rendering. 3D artist spend so much in this process and continually seek more ways to optimize the 3d model. One of the biggest concerns is the reduction of the file size by optimizing the 3d model without compromising the quality of rendering. There are several ways to do this. With your daily experience, you can also develop ways to improve and shorten the process of doing 3d modeling. Here are some of the methods that are useful: ·The use of layering ·The use of components ·The use of grouping You will be required to do it yourself in this phase and continue working with the layout plan you have prepared.

These are the basic knowledge to keep in the entire 3d modeling of anything you want to create. It is the guiding principle that will make your work organize and systematic. The rest of the tool are there to enhance your user experience along the way.

This is the video tutorial of our example two-storey house. an introduction that will show part of the 3d creation. You will be continuing the task. The main idea is to let you do it yourself to help you be able to create the design and create the 3d model. The best way to learn is to do it and explore all the methods to help you understand the process. That way you can also develop a method to short cut the process. 

The commands are repetitious. Learning the basics of 3d modeling will guide you to complete the design.   

The sketchup plan is provided for you to download and continue the work and submit before proceeding to the next lesson on Texturing.

Texturing is assigning a material into your 3d model. Each of the planes you have created can be assigned with material texture. This is where your concept works. How you combine all the materials and making a good composition to your design. In the practice, this may be influenced by the budget. Your creativity will consider all this limitations to your design otherwise, you can explore all possibilities.

A Scene is the perspective view of the 3d model you have created. Saving a scene will save a lot of time in providing different views of your presentation. You can create as many scenes as you can and save it while you are completing the 3d models you are creating.

A Style of Presentation is the type of presentation that is available in sketchup from a sketchy styles to photo realistic style. This is where the artistry is shown. 

After completing your 3d model, you can choose the styles you want to show. 

Rendering is a process of generating an image of 2D and 3D models. The 3d models can be saved with a preset of scene file showing different view of a particular design. Each of the scenes can be rendered and the final output is sometimes edited further with photoshop and other editing software’s. This can be very exciting because this is where your artistry will stand out. You can choose from a wide variety of styles of presentation.

The final Presentation is the compilation of you final work that comprises the whole design concept of the house you have designed.
