The student will learn how to confidently use ESRI’s GIS software known as ArcGISĀ Desktop which includes Arcmap and ArcCatalog. No prior knowledge is needed. This course will start from the beginning and get into more involved tasks the further along it goes. Important topics we will cover include creating map layers, setting projections, creating mapbooks, creating maps, introducing the scripting method known as modelbuilder/python, using Visual Basic script to make changes to the data, using sql to run queries on the data, using other formats inside and outside of ArcGIS Desktop (jpegs, spreadsheets, google earth kmz files), symbolizing the data, and exporting the layers/maps we will create. Note: This software not open source, you first must install it. The minimum cost $100.00 is US Dollars.

1Introduction
The section numbering in my course is 1 through 4 because I don't count the 1st section. I consider it more of an overview.

3What we will cover
Be aware of an error.....I refer to the data view (map area) as the data frame in this video. The numbers in the map diagram represent the order in which I will cover each part of the software. I changed my mind about the survey. Please review me and this course using this site instead. Thanks.

4Getting Started
Arcmap, the software we are learning, apart of the umbrella ArcGISĀ Desktop Suite Software, will be around for at least 5 more years.

5Data Formats 1
The third data format IĀ am referring to in this video is a raster and has a number 1 next to it at the bottom of the slide.

9Data Frame Properties
There may be times during this course when I refer to the data view as the data frame. I apologize in advance. I correctly explain what these two are in this video.

13Coordinate Systems
You set the map layer's projection you first create it. You can change or overwrite the projection using define projection tool in arctoolbox.

I apologize for not showing more of the Google Earth Pro Software. The Snagit software recorder kept crashing when I used the program. Let me know if you have questions about the software.
